FIRST Robotics is based on two core values that help it to survive through fierce competition and strenuous hard work.
1. “Gracious Professionalism”
The term “Gracious Professionalism” was coined by FIRST National Advisor Dr. Woodie Flowers. It is a way of doing things that encourages students to produce high quality work and to respect the value of the individuals in their community.
2. “Coopertition”
Coopertition is the combination of cooperation and competition. It is founded on the philosophy that teams can and should help and cooperate with each other even as they compete. Coopertition involves learning from teammates and teaching teammates. It is learning from mentors; managing and being managed. Coopertition means competing always, but assisting and enabling others when you can.
